Opioid Related Deaths

This data represents the people in Alabama that have died of an apparent overdose between 2016 and 2021. This dashboard includes all drug overdoses, as well as opioid-related overdoses. This data comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Wonder. The data includes drug overdose deaths identified using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD–10) cause-of-death codes (i.e., X40–X44, X60–X64, X85, and Y10–Y14). Opioid overdose deaths were identified using the ICD–10 codes T40.0-T40.4 and T40.6.

The visualization shows summary level data to protect from identifiable information. Rates are population-adjusted using the US Census; all rates are per 100,000 population. If a rate is not provided for a total that exists, it is due to the CDC notating the rate as unreliable. To further protect the information, summary data must have a minimum of 10.
