The data provided comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Syndromic Surveillance Data (NSSP). Hospital/ERs in Alabama report data to the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), which then sends this information to the CDC’s National Syndromic Surveillance Data Program.

These data represent emergency room visits in Alabama among Alabama residents for suspected or confirmed drug overdoses between 2016 and 2023. It's important to note that not all overdoses are opioid-related. Each visualization uses a separate summary dataset to protect identifiable information. To further protect identifiable information, summary data must have a minimum of 10 records.
